In the heart of our community, there’s a story unfolding that doesn’t make headlines everywhere — but it should. A nonprofit thrift shop called Clothes Less Traveled recently announced a major milestone for 2025: more than $421,680 was reinvested into our local area, supporting neighbors, nonprofits, students, and families throughout Fayette and Coweta Counties.

This isn’t a one-off number. Since its founding in 1997, Clothes Less Traveled has returned more than $9 million back into the community through grants, scholarships, vouchers, and partnerships with local organizations.

What makes this story worth sharing isn’t just the dollar figure — it’s how that impact has translated into real people being served, supported, and empowered.

A hub for community generosity

Clothes Less Traveled isn’t your average thrift shop. It’s a collection of volunteers, donors, shoppers, and organizers who choose to make every purchase, donation, and hour volunteered count.

In 2025 alone:

  • 285 volunteers helped keep operations running each month

  • More than 31,000 volunteer hours were contributed

  • 82,000+ purchases supported the mission

  • Over 600,000 pounds of goods were diverted from landfills

  • $6,680 in free clothing and essentials went to neighbors in need

  • $30,000 in scholarships went to local students

  • $385,000 in grants was distributed to 63 local charities

  • All of this resulted in $421,680 reinvested in our community last year

These numbers aren’t abstract. They represent opportunities, education, comfort, and support for real people right here at home.

What it looks like on the ground

At the Clothes Less Traveled thrift shops — including the one in Newnan — everyday actions become community outcomes. Someone donates a gently used coat. A volunteer logs an afternoon of service. A shopper picks up a wardrobe piece they love, knowing their purchase means something bigger.

That chain of small decisions becomes a big impact.

This kind of community investment doesn’t just help people get by — it helps them thrive.

Why this matters to our community

Impact like this is a reflection of both generosity and connection. It shows what can happen when:

  • People volunteer their time

  • Neighbors donate what they can

  • Shoppers know they’re supporting something meaningful

  • Organizations collaborate for good

This is community pride in action — not just words.

It’s the kind of story that reminds us why we love where we live. And it’s why people who are new to the area or considering moving here often cite community involvement and support systems as key reasons they feel drawn to this region.

It’s not just about nice streets or beautiful homes — it’s about how people show up for one another.

Clothes Less Traveled — living locally, giving globally

Part of what makes the Clothes Less Traveled story so worth celebrating is that its impact goes beyond simple charity. The nonprofit supports education, basic needs, environmental sustainability by re-purposing goods, and strong partnerships with other local nonprofits.

That broad, sustained impact shows what’s possible when a community works together — and it’s the kind of story that reflects the heart of our region.
